Oktoberfest in Munich is finally starting 💙 Here are 10 local’s tips of what you should know before going: 🥨 Dress up in traditional Bavarian attire 🥨 It’s just more fun and you’ll feel more as a part of the Oktoberfest theme if you show up in Dirndl or Lederhosen. Please don’t wear cheap plastic costumes, this can even be regarded as mocking the Bavarian culture. 🥨 Don’t miss out on the food 🥨 Pretzels, roasted chicken, Käsespätzle, sausages, candied almonds are just some of the delicacies. The food inside the beer tents is amazing, and so it is outside at the food stalls. The food stalls are cheaper and you are allowed to bring your own food to the beer gardens in front of the tents. 🥨 Know your limits 🥨 Oktoberfest beer is stronger than the normal Munich beer. Don’t drink too fast and don’t forget to eat enough. Know your limits, you don’t want to end up at the vomit hill. A Radler (beer mixed with lemonade) is a pretty sweet option especially if you’re not used to drinking lots of beer. 🥨 Wear comfortable shoes 🥨 It’s a massive festival so you probably end up walking a lot. Comfortable shoes will make your visit much more enjoyable. 🥨 Bring a jacket for the evening 🥨 Even though it might be warm during the day, at this time of the year it gets cold at night. At the tables inside the tents you can use the iron fixture underneath to hold your jacket. 🥨 Bring enough cash 🥨 Oktoberfest is a cash only event. There are ATMs at the festival grounds but there are often queues and there’s a usage fee. 🥨 Always tip your waiter 🥨 The waiters are doing amazing by carrying so many of the 1 liter beers! Tip 10% of the price to ensure you’re on the good side with them. 🥨 Explore the fairgrounds 🥨 Outside the tents there are plenty of rides and carnival games. Ferry wheel, carousels, roller coasters and much more! 🥨 No bag packs or big bags 🥨 There is a security check at the entrance where your bags will be checked. 🥨 Be there early if you don’t have a reservation 🥨 Oktoberfest is so packed on peak times such as the evening and weekends.
