Hofbräu Tent Oktoberfest
The iconic Hofbräu Tent at Oktoberfest

The Oktoberfest Hofbräu tent is internationally the most famous of the 17 big Oktoberfest beer tents. The mood inside this Oktoberfest tent is very festive and the parties are legendary. Fitting to the overall beer theme, the Hofbräu tent is decorated with fresh hops from a nearby hop-growing region. In the middle of the tent flies the angel "Aloisius" on a cloud as he is the Hofbräu brewery's mascot.
The original Hofbräuhaus is the most famous brewery hall in Munich's city center. The outside facade of the Hofbräu Oktoberfest tent is a beautiful recreation of the Munich beer hall in the city center. The Hofbräu tent can be recognized from far away by its crown on top of the blue letters "HB" for Hofbräu.
The Hofbräu Oktoberfest Beer
The Hofbräu Oktoberfest beer that is especially brewed for the Oktoberfest is a lager beer that has an alcohol content of 6.3% which is stronger than the usual Hofbräu beer available outside of Oktoberfest.
There is also a sweeter beer version of "Radler" ("shandy") available, which is the Oktoberfest lager mixed with refreshing sparkling lemonade. The alcohol free Hofbräu beer is also available.

At the Hofbräu Oktoberfest tent the only size of beer you can order is one liter (≈ 1.06 US Quarts). The glass that is made to hold this amount of beer is called "Maßkrug" or "Mass" in German. For water and softdrink the size is either half a liter or a liter. Besides beer and softdrinks there is also wine available in this Oktoberfest tent.
Especially first-time visitors of the Hofbräu Oktoberfest tent often get tempted to finish the whole 1 liter Maßkrug at once. We do only recommend to down the whole drink if you want to be escorted by the security out of the tent, as it is not allowed to do this in the Hofbräu Oktoberfest tent.
The Food at the Hofbräu Tent
Inside the Hofbräu beer tent guests can order the typical Bavarian cuisine, which is renowned for their hearty, flavorful dishes that perfectly complement the beers served. There are also vegan food options available, like a vegan sausage.
The most popular food choice at the Hofbräu tent is the Oktoberfest classic 1/2 roast chicken. This dish can be best enjoyed with the side of a pretzel or a potato salad.
Another popular vegetarian food choice is "Käsespätzle" which is traditional German dish made of soft noodles layered with melted cheese and topped with crispy fried onions.
Our favorite dessert is "Kaiserschmarrn" which is is a fluffy, shredded pancake, served with powdered sugar and fruit compote.
During weekdays, from 11 am to 3 pm, Hofbräu tent visitors can also enjoy in a daily lunch special with a rotation of local Bavarian food options. This ensures there's always something new to enjoy alongside your favorite drink.
The Music and Mood at the Hofbräu Tent
The atmosphere inside the Hofbräu beer tent is always lively and bustling with energy. As the day progresses, the festive spirit intensifies, reaching its peak by evening when the party truly comes alive.
There is space for around 6,000 people inside the Hofbräu Oktoberfest tent and an additional 3,000 seats in the beer garden outside, creating a vibrant atmosphere fueled by a diverse crowd. Visitors from around the globe mingle with locals and Germans alike, all contributing to the lively ambiance that makes the Hofbräu tent a true international celebration of Bavarian tradition.
Among the many tunes that fill the air, "Ein Prosit" stands out as the most frequently played Oktoberfest song. The fact that this Bavarian drinking anthem has a countdown after which the whole tent cheers and drinks together which undoubtedly contributes to this song's popularity.
In the afternoons, the tent is filled with the sounds of a traditional Bavarian brass band, delivering authentic regional melodies. As night falls, the vibe shifts to a more modern beat, with a live band to perform an array of English and German party classics. Songs like "Country Roads" and "Sweet Caroline" have the entire crowd singing along, creating unforgettable moments and a great atmosphere.
