Spring Festival Munich - the small Oktoberfest!

If you’re looking for an authentic Bavarian festival experience without the overwhelming crowds of Oktoberfest, the Munich Spring Festival is exactly what you need. Often called the “little Oktoberfest” (kleine Wiesn), this lively event marks the start of Munich’s beer festival season and offers a more relaxed, local vibe.

What is the Munich Sprin Festival?


The Munich Spring Festival takes place every year on the Theresienwiese which is the same place that host Oktoberfest. While smaller in scale, it captures the same spirit: traditional beer tents, classic Bavarian food, rides, and a festive atmosphere that brings together locals and visitors alike.


In 2026, the Munich Spring Festival takes place from April 17 to May 10, 2026.


This year is particularly special, as the festival celebrates its 60th anniversary. To mark the occasion, it has been extended to three full weeks, instead of the usual two. 

Hippodrom Tent at Spring Festival Munich


The Hippodrom tent is one of the two main beer tents at the Munich Spring Festival. It is located on the Theresienwiese, it combines classic fest hall charm with a slightly more modern, upbeat party vibe.


Inside, are long communal tables, live Bavarian bands, and a mix of locals and international visitors enjoying fresh Munich beer and traditional dishes like roast chicken and pretzels. Compared to the massive tents at Oktoberfest, the Hippodrom feels more intimate and easier to navigate.



All tables inside the Hippodrom tent at the Munich Spring Festival are reserved in advance and each table accommodates up to 10 guests.
